Abiu is a creamy, incredibly sweet fruit that tastes heavily of caramel custard, honey, and brown sugar. Many people compare its flavor to a smooth blend of vanilla, sapodilla, and sweet sugarcane. 

The white, translucent flesh has a creamy, jelly like, and smooth consistency.

Note: Like other fruits in its botanical family, the rind of this fruit contains a sticky, white milky latex. If the fruit is not fully ripe, this sap can coat your lips and teeth with a tacky, chalky residue.

How to eat it: To get the best taste and avoid the sticky sap, wait until the fruit is completely bright yellow and slightly soft to the touch. Cut it in half and use a spoon to scoop out the gelatinous flesh, making sure not to scrape too close to the inedible skin or rind. It tastes exceptional when eaten chilled!
