The Lorito Mamey Sapote is an exceptional and hard-to-find variety originating from Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. Recognizable by its coarse, textured skin, it reveals striking crimson-red flesh with an incredibly smooth, custard-like texture. Its complex flavor offers a delicious blend of rich tropical sweetness accented by hints of stone fruit, warm vanilla, roasted nuts, and comforting baked dessert notes. A true collector's favorite, the Lorito is prized for its outstanding taste, unique appearance, and premium eating quality.
Tip:
- Lightly scratch the brown skin with your fingernail. If the flesh underneath is reddish-orange, it’s mature and will ripen well. If it’s green, it needs more time.
- Mamey will need to ripen at room temperature of around 70°F or more after delivery.
- The fruit will be soft all over. Once soft, cut in half and scoop out seed(s). You can eat Mamey with a spoon straight out the fruit or freeze to make milkshakes or smoothies.
